Caracas Airport (CSS) - MIGadmin's Observations
Caracas Airport consists of two main buildings, International and Domestic. The buildings are separated by a short walk of less than 10 minutes and travellers have two route options. The first option is to exit the buildings and walk the sidewalk on the airport property between the buildings. You'd be outside enjoying the full heat Venezuela has to offer. The second option is to use the interior walkway which connects the two buildings. This walkway is located within the secured area of the airport facility so it is totally safe and devoid of people trying to sell you their goods and services. It is also air conditioned making the walk easier for those not ready to take on the heat. It is also the better option if its raining or its dark.
The International building is multi level for arrivals and departures. There is also a food court area overlooking the arrivals area outside the secured area. This was the spot I chose to spend the night when I did an overnighter. The benches are not the most comfortable for sleeping but it was doable. If you do this just make sure your belonging are secured and/or under your control. None of the food outlets in the food court area were open overnight but there was an arepera open 24hrs offering food and drink.
The domestic building is about a 7 minute walk east of the international building. If you encounter someone wanting to help you with your luggage be very careful; lots of people are trying to make a fast buck off of unsuspecting visitors. If you wish to use their services then negotiate a price before you allow them to touch you baggage. Be aware that you may be expected to pay for each person accompanying you on the way to the other building so make it clear how much you will be paying and to who if there is more than one person involved.
